Firmware upgrade readme file ˇV Key011_012_013_014_015_016 Firmware (FW) version 002.520.006 or 004.420.021 (built 2005.02) =================================== Why should I upgrade? ================= - This upgrade allows your Key audio player to play secure WMA music files purchased from online music services (please check music playing rights with your music provider). - This upgrade applies only if your Key audio player is currently running Firmware versions older than version 002.520.006 or 004.420.021. Your key Audio player may be with either the chipset ST3505 or ST3410. The installer may auto check the device's chipset and then install the correct version of firmware either 002.520.006 for ST3505 or 004.420.021 for ST3410. That's mean after the upgrade you will find the firmware of your device to be either 002.520.006 or 004.420.021 depends on the chipset inside your player. How do I upgrade ˇV part A =================== Please follow the steps below to upgrade the latest firmware into your Key Audio player. First, check the existing firmware version of your Key audio player. If you already have the latest version, there is no need to upgrade. How can I check the version number of my firmware? =================================================== 1. Back up all your files in your Key Ring Audio Player on the computer. 2. Hook up your player to the computer. 3. At Start->Programs->Key Audio 256MB or Key Audio 512MB, select Firmware Manager. 4. If the computer shows ˇ§Initializing Firmware Managerˇ¨ and unable to initiate the Firmware Manager then disconnect the player, press & hold the PLAY key on the wired remote while connecting the player back to the PC via the USB connector. Hold the PLAY key on the wired remote for another 5 seconds. Release the PLAY key from the remote. The player should now be able to enter the recovery mode. At Start->Programs->Key Audio 256MB or Key Audio 512MB, select Firmware Manager. 5. You may check in the Firmware Manager, the current firmware version of your player. How do I upgrade ˇV part B =================== 1. Download the respective firmware upgrade .zip file into a temp directory of your PC. 2. un-install the previous KeyRing Audio application from your PC at Start->Program->Philip Audio Key Ring Player->Key Audio 256MB / 512MB->Un-install. 3. Unzip the file and then double click the Setup.exe file to start the installation of the application. 4. Follow the screen instruction to complete the installation of the application. 5. To upgrade your Key Ring Audio player with the new firmware, connect the player to the PC via the USB. 6. At Start->Programs->Key Audio 256MB or Key Audio 512MB, select Firmware Manager. 7. If the computer shows ˇ§Initializing Firmware Managerˇ¨ and unable to initiate the Firmware Manager then disconnect the player, press & hold the PLAY key on the wired remote while connecting the player back to the PC via the USB connector. Hold the PLAY key on the wired remote for another 5 seconds. Release the PLAY key from the remote. The player should now be able to enter the recovery mode. At Start->Programs->Key Audio 256MB or Key Audio 512MB, select Firmware Manager. 8. Select your desired language option from the list and click Start to initiate the firmware installation process. 9. Once the firmware upgrading process is complete, you may click on the removal icon on the task tray to stop and eject the player. When a message saying that the USB device can now be safely removed from the system appears, click OK. In Win98, there is no removal icon. You can remove the player when the animation of the Key Ring player stops. 10.Now you may unplug the player from your PC. The unit should now have the firmware upgraded.
